Nickel mining company PT Tiga Baji plans to build a smelter facility in 2014 near its mining concession area in Morowali Regency, Central Sulawesi.

The company is currently conducting a feasibility study to determine the appropriate technology for the facility.

?We plan to start operating the smelter in 2015,? CEO of Tiga Baji, Anton Santoso told Petromindo.com Tuesday.

He explained that the smelter will process about 2 million tons of nickel ores per year, and produce about 200,000 tons of processed nickel. He added that the company?s smelter would also refine nickel ores produced by other companies.

?We?ll supply 100-150,000 tons of nickel ore per month to the smelting facility,? Anton said, while adding that the company is teaming up with a Chinese company providing the technology in developing the project.

Tiga Baji operates nickel mining concessions in Morowali, and Central Halmahera, North Maluku.
