Timah’s reclamation project covers 4,662 hectares

The reclamation project of the country’s largest tin producer PT Timah has covered about 4,662 hectares mostly located in the company’s main concession areas in Bangka and Belitung islands, South Sumatra, Bisnis Indonesia reported on Thursday.
PT Timah’s president Thobrani Alwi said in a hearing with Commission VIII of the House of Representatives (DPR) on Wednesday that the reclamation was part of the company’s long-term program to bring back its former mining sites into productive land.
He said that the reclamation of the former mining sites was also part of the company’s rehabilitation program that also includes the preparation of the former mining area into productive activities such as grass planting for animal husbandry.
Thobrani said that the company was also preparing the reclamation of another 1,355 hectares in its former mining areas, also located in Bangka and Belitung islands. (*)
