Indonesia's Tambang Timah has aborted plans to explore for tin in Myanmar after being unable to agree with the local government on "certain terms and conditions," a company official said Monday. "We will not be exploring for tin in Myanmar for the time being as our negotiations with the Myanmar government did not work out," the official said.
"We cannot agree on terms such as the production sharing, so the planned exploration was called off," the official added.
Timah plans to explore for new tin deposits in Vietnam, Malaysia and Myanmar to replace its depleting reserves. "We have signed the Memorandum of Understanding with the Vietnamese government and sent a team over. Currently, the exploration in Vietnam is going ahead smoothly," the official added. (*)
