World?s number 1 tin producer PT Timah Tbk. said on Tuesday it planned to diversify business to coal to anticipate declining revenue from tin sales.

?Exploration cost for coal is much cheaper compared to copper or gold,? said Thobrani Alwi, Timah president in a public expose in Jakarta.

Thobrani said Timah is looking to mine coal with the size of production between 500,000 tons to 1 million tons per annum.

Thobrani said Timah is already acquiring coal concession in South Kalimantan, but he decline to say when it could be brought into production.(alex)
