IDX-listed tin giant PT Timah Tbk has resumed production at Kelabat Bay in Bangka Belitung after the provincial administration lifted suspension on the offshore tin mining operation.
The local administration suspended in January of this year the Kelabat Bay operation following complaints from fishermen of damage to local environment.
?The Kelabat Bay operation has resumed since Monday after the governor issues the permit,? said Timah Corporate Secretary Agung Nugroho to Kontan.
The Kelabat Bay operation accounts for about 10 percent of Timah?s annual tin production, which the company expects to reach 26,000-30,000 tons this year. Offshore tin production accounts for about 70 percent annual output of Timah.
Elsewhere, Agung said that the company will continue to seek new concession to anticipate possible disruption to production at existing operations in the future. (*)
