State tin miner PT Timah Tbk said that its coal business nearly tripled output to 2.15 million ton in 2006 from 709,109 ton in the previous year.
Timah runs the business through mining subsidiary PT Tanjung Alam Jaya (TAJ) and trading arm PT Timah Investasi Mineral (TIM)
Coal sales in 2006 surged to 1.78 million tons compared 708,817 ton in 2005.
Total stock of coal stood at 371,244 tons until the end of 2006, a sharp increase compared to 10,295 ton by the end of 2005. The increasing stock caused by bad weather that disrupted coal uploading.
Timah acquired TAJ in 2003. TAJ operates a 9,721-hectare coalmine in South Kalimantan, which has mineable reserves of around 10 million tons.
TAJ produces coal with calorific value of approximately 6,500 Kcal/kg. (denny)
