IDX-listed tin giant PT Timah Tbk said that its tin output can increase by up to 50 percent once it realizes an instruction from President Joko Widodo to accommodate production of small miners operating at the company?s untapped concession in Bangka Belitung province, Kontan reported Thursday.

Timah Corporate Secretary Agung Nugroho said that the company?s tin output in the first-half of this year increased by nearly 32 percent year-on-year to 14,261 tons, while sales volume jumped by 45.88 percent to 14,096 tons. ?Export until end of this year is expected to reach 26,000-30,000 tons. The export target for next year is the same,? Agung said.

Acting Director for Environment at the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources Adhi Wibowo said that Timah is set to accommodate the output of 5,500 small-scale tin miners operating at its concession. Related ministers are currently drafting a new regulation as legal umbrella for the miners and ensure they get attractive return from Timah. Under the plan, Timah will buy the tin output produced by the small miners. (*)
