Timah?s tin output to be above target in 2002

Publicly listed tin miner PT Timah Tbk said its annual production of tin ore in 2002 will exceed the initial target of 50,525 tons.

?At the moment, our production has nearly reached the output target. We are sure that production will be above target by end-December,? Timah president director Thobrani Alwi said in his meeting with a visiting delegation of the House of Representatives in Pangkalpinang over the weekend.

Thobrani said Timah?s tin ore output reached 40,535 tons in 2001.

Timah, which is majority owned by the government, is the world?s largest tin producer with production capacity of around 48,000 tons per year. (alex)
