State tin mining company PT Timah announced Saturday it is planning to explore for tin offshore Vietnam as a part of an expansion plan.
Antara quoted Thobrani Alwi, president director of PT Timah, as saying the company will soon dispatch 26 employees to Vietnam aboard the drill ship, Geotin I.
The 26 people -- consisting of a project coordinator, 12 crew members and 13 exploration workers -- will be in Vietnam for three months to explore tin deposits, Thobrani said.
He said an agreement on the dispatch of the drill ship followed an agreement signed by Timah and the Vietnamese government in mid-March.
If the results of the drilling shows profitable tin deposits, the operation will continue, and if not it will be halted he said.
The agency gave no details of the type of contract that might be entered into should the drilling be successful. (*)
