Timah to raise its processed tin to 50% of total production

Indonesia?s largest tin producer PT Timah Tbk plans to raise its processed tin products, from around 10 percent at present, to 50 percent of total production in 2014, the company?s President Director, Wachid Usman said.

?We hope our processed tin will rise to around 50 percent of our total production over the next three to four years,? said Wachid.

Wachid said that the main challenge for the company is marketing the processed tin or value-added tin products, since the company is new in this sector.

As a move to maintain tin price, Timah aims to maintain tin production at below 50,000 tons per annum up until 2015. However, it hopes to raise the output of the derivative tin products such as tin solder and tin chemical, given high added value nature of these products, which ultimately should increase the company?s sales income.
