Timah won?t be affected by regional tax

Monday, October 1 2001 - 12:27 AM WIB

The state-owned tin mining company PT Timah Tbk will not be affected by the 20 percent sales tax imposed by the local authority of the Bangka Regency as earlier feared, according to a government source.

The source said that the tax would only be applied to concentrate exporters, while Timah only export tin metal.

Reports earlier said that Timah would have to shut down or relocate its operation if the Bangka Island administration proceeded with plans to impose a 20 percent tax on sales of mining products.

Timah said that the company could not endure the high tax particularly amid a drop in the price of the commodity.(Alex)
