Timika people protest Freeport

The Timika people in Irian Jaya held a protest on Saturday against gold giant firm PT Freeport Indonesia for being ignorant to the welfare of the people living near the company.

The Timika people demanded Freeport to immediately set aside one percent of its revenue for the local community as stipulated in its contract of work.

Two Freeport security officers were held hostage during the incident.(*)
