Toshiba wins major orders for Malea hydroelectric project

Toshiba Corporation announced Monday that Toshiba Group has won major orders to supply hydroelectric generating equipment for the Malea Hydro Power Plant Project in South Sulawesi,Indonesia.

Toshiba said in a statement the orders were received from PT Malea Energy, a subsidiary of Kalla Group that generates and distributes hydropower energy in Indonesia.

The feature of the equipment is its high head and high rotational speed.

The statement said deliveries will start from 2018 and the plant is scheduled to start commercial operation in 2020.

The Indonesian government has an aggressive power supply development plan to add 35GW in installed capacity over the next five years, and the new plant will contribute to reaching this target.

Toshiba Group has a long track record of providing hydroelectric turbines and generators to ASEAN countries, including Laos,Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam, and has built a strong presence in Indonesia.

Toshiba installed its first hydropower system in Indonesia in 1973, and its supply record to date is 33 units of hydroelectric turbines and generators with total capacity of 1,490 MW.
