Total blackout occurred in all parts of North Sumatra, and some parts of Aceh at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday after the Belawan power plant broke down due to technical problem at the generating system in one of its gas turbine.

Harry Poerwono, a senior official at the power plant, said that the power supply for several parts in the province particularly in Medan and Binjai could be resumed again at 9.30 p.m. after the technicians carried out some repair works.

He hoped that the electricity would be normal again today after all the technical problems, which had caused the stall in the plant?s generating system could be resolved.

Belawan power plant is the largest in North Sumatra with capacity 200-MegaWatt. (Robert)
