Total E&P Indonesie obtains ISO-14001 certificate

French oil company Total E&P Indonesie received on Tuesday an ISO-14001 certificate from certification agency AFAQ-ASCERT International Indonesia for its success to fulfill international standards in its environmental management system at its central processing area in the Handil oil block in East Kalimantan, Samarinda-based newspaper Tribun Kalimantan reported Thursday.
General Manager of AFAQ, Alie Leonardi handed over the ISO-14001 certificate to the senior vice president of Total E&P Indonesia, Philippe Jahan in a ceremony which was also attended by senior officials from the local government including the regent of Kutai Kartanegara, Syaukani HR .
Jahan said that the success to obtain the ISO-14001 certificate indicated the company?s strong commitment in protecting the environment in its Handil concession area, which began production in July 1975.
The production at the Handil oil block reached its peak at 230,000 barrels of crude oil per day in 1977. At present, the oil block only produces about 20,000 barrels of crude oil per day. (*)
