Total E&P Indonesie, a unit of France oil giant Total SA announced on Tuesday the signing of Memorandum of Understanding with the Indonesian Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources in Bali on the sidelines of the UN Climate Change Conference.

This will allow Indonesia?s Agency of Research and Development for Energy and Mineral Resources to access data from Total's CO2 capture and geological storage pilot project which is being implemented near Lacq in the South West of France, the company said.

The project, one of the first in the world to include the whole chain from combustion to CO2 geological storage, is primarily intended to prove the technical feasibility of an integrated carbon capture and storage scheme.

This cooperation will allow the Government of Indonesia (GoI) to develop its technical and economical understanding of such a carbon capture and storage scheme. In turn, this may assist the Indonesian Government to establish an appropriate regulatory framework for similar projects that may one day be proposed in Indonesia. (godang)
