Total holds socialization on drilling plan in Bengkulu

Total E&P Indonesie Mentawai B.V., the local unit of French firm Total SA that operates Bengkulu-Mentawai block offshore Bengkulu, together with the local government is holding a ?socialization? program to inform the public on its fist planned drilling activity scheduled for early next year.
"Today, we together with the local government begin socialization as part of the preparation for the drilling campaign that will be conducted for Rendang-1 well in early next year," Head of Media Relations of Total EP Indonesie (TEPI) Kristanto Hartadi told Petromindo.com on Monday.
He said the drilling in the Indian Ocean will target a depth of over 900 meters, using a rig called Ocean Monarch leased from Singapore.
"We use a rig from Singapore since a deep offshore is not available now in Indonesia This activity is very challenging, since the well covers an area which is prone to tsunami and earthquake. But we will try to mitigate the risks," he said.
Although the prospect of the well is not yet known, Kristanto is quite optimistic that the prospect is good.
"The well is located in deep offshore area. Because of that, the cost is certainly higher when compared to the costs we have spent for the Mahakam block," Kristanto explained.
