State owned oil and gas firm PT Pertamina (Persero) Tbk announced on Tuesday that Total Gas & Power Ltd, a wholly-owned subsidiary of French oil supermajor Total SA, has agreed to join the consortium led by the state firm to bid for the Jawa 1 power plant project that will be soon put into auction by public utility PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN) (Persero)

Pertamina?s spokesperson Wianda Pusponegoro said aside from Total and Pertamina, the other member of the consortium is Japanese firm Marubeni.

It has become a strong consortium due to the presence of Marubeni, which is known as a global independent power producer (IPP) player and Total Gas & Power, a leader in the global LNG business, Wianda said.

Furthermore, she said, the Pertamina-Marubeni-Total consortium will be supported by leading technology firm General Electric to provide technology and Samsung C&T to provide Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) service for the project.

?The combinations of Pertamina, Marubeni and Total Gas & Power powers, supported by General Electric as technology provider has strengthened our confidence in anticipating the tender of PLTGU Jawa 1 with a capacity of 1,600 MW,? she said.

Wianda explained that General Electric will provide its 9HA combined cycle gas turbine (CCGT) tehnology for the project, which is widely used globally. It is able to increase power plant?s efficiency by 61 percent. The PLTGU Jawa I power plant will be the largest of its kind in Indonesia. It is part of the government?s 35,000 MW program.
