Total mobilizing Ocean Monarch to offshore Bengkulu

French firm Total EP Indonesie (TEPI) through its local unit Total E&P Indonesie Mentawai B.V. is mobilizing a rig of submersible offshore type called Ocean Monarch owned by Diamond Offshore Inc. to Bengkulu-Mentawai block offshore Bengkulu, said a top official of firm.

The company?s President Director Hardy Pramono told Petromindo.com that the TEPI is planning to spud the Rendang-1 well of the block using the Ocean Monarch rig in the first week of July.

"This is a deep sea exploration activity that we will do again. So daily rate of this activity is estimated approaching US$1 million per day on the western side of Sumatra," he pointed out.

TEPI?s VP HR Communications, General Services & Audit Arividya Novianto and Head of Media Relations Kristanto Hartadi confirmed that the rig is being mobilized from East Kalimantan towards Bengkulu.

Rendang-1 well in the Bengkulu basin located around 40 miles or 75 km offshore Bengkulu where seawater has a depth of around 950 km. The well is planned to be drilled to a depth of about 1,000 meters.

Based on the Diamond Offshore Inc. latest fleet update, TEPI has rented the Ocean Monarch to drill one well for a period of 60 to 150 days at a rate of $420,000 per day.

The block is 100 percent owned by TEPI Mentawai B.V. which was awarded to the firm on Oct. 9, 2012.
