Total Orbit to start production from E. Kalimantan coal mine 2010

East Kalimantan coal miner PT Total Orbit Persada will start production from its mine that is located in Melak, West Kutai regency in the first quarter of 2010 with initial production of 1 million tonnes per annum.

Director Yohanes Ferendi told Petromindo.Com Wednesday that coal production would be sold to its sister companies that have won right to build several coal-fired power plants in Bangka-Belitung island and in Kalimantan. Negotiation is also underway to supply coal to PLN?s 10,000-MW coal-fired power plants project, he said.

Total has 100 million tonnes of mineable reserves in its mining concession, with coal CV range from 5,300-5,500Kcal/kg with low ash and low sulphur.

Yohanes said the company is planning to upgrade its mining permit to Coal Contract of Work status.(denny)
