Total plans 107 new wells in Mahakam

Total E&P Indonesie has targeted to drill 107 new wells in Mahakam Block during this year in order to keep gas production at 2.227 million metric standard cubic feet per day (mmscfd) and oil at 81.600 barrels per day.

The new wells were part of its medium term operational plan to arrest the natural declining on its existing wells, Total E&P Indonesia Executive Vice President for Operations and East Kalimantan District Manager, Hardy Pramono said as quoted by Bisnis Indonesia during the Supply Chain Communication Forum 2012 on Wednesday.

Hardy said that to arrest the natural decline on its existing wells, his company would apply appropriate technology to enhance production. He claimed that the company is trying hard to keep production at normal level.

Total E&P has 9 drilling rigs, two of which are located offshore South Mahakam. It has planned to gradually increase the offshore rigs so that in 2013 it will have a total of 6 rigs offshore South Mahakam.

The Mahakam block?s PSC contract is expiring in 2017. Currently, 20 percent of Total E&P?s production of gas is supplied to Bontang liquefied natural gas (LNG) plant in East Kalimantan.(*)
