Total E&P Indonesia has planted at least 40,000 mangroves trees near its production site in the Delta Mahakam sea area in East Kalimantan during its reforestation campaign held since January of this year, Kaltim Post reported on Tuesday.

The mangrove tree plantating program is part of the oil company's long-term program to grow at least two million mangroves trees in the Delta Mahakam sea area, one of the country's largest mangrove forest areas.

"The program is part of the company's activities to sustain the mangrove forests in the area which have now been more than 50 percent damaged. Many residents cut the mangrove trees, causing a serious abrasion problem," said Vita Darmawan, the company's spokesperson.

The mangrove plantation which involves the local residents is one of the company's community development in its exploration and production site in East Kalimantan. (*)
