Total?s Telen block attracts oil majors

Several oil majors have expressed interest to farm in the Telen block in East Kalimantan wholly owned by French firm Total E&P Indonesie (TEPI), a senior official at the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources said on Wednesday
Yunan Muzafar, Oil and Gas Block Sub-Directorate Head at the Directorate General of Oil and Gas, told Petromindo.com the firms have officially asked for permission to enter the data room of the block.
The companies are among others BP Indonesia, CNOOC, ExxonMobil, Medco Energi Internasional, Kufpec, Japex, Statoil.
?The most serious of all is CNOOC,? he said.
Arividya Noviyanto, TEPI?s Communication Vice President, confirmed that there are companies which have asked to see to the data room of the block.
?Thats rigt, we are opening Telen?s data room. Telen is a challenging area, located in deep water. That?s why we are looking for partner. We are evaluating the prospectivity of the block and plans to drill it in 2016,? he said.
TEPI has yet to provide details about the percentage of interest in the block it plans to farm out.
The Telen exploration block is located in the offshore Kutei Basin, covering an area of 2,369 square kilometers with water depths in the range of 300 and 1,000 meters and adjacent to the country?s most prolific gas producing offshore Mahakam block operated by TEPI.
