PT Total Synergy International (TSI) plans to complete the construction of a geo coal upgrading plant in Labuan, Banten, in August, company President Director Harsudi Supandi said.
He said that investment for the facility, located at a power plant site of PT PLN, is estimated at around US$10-12 million. The plan will have a capacity of processing 20 million tonnes of coal per year.
Harsudi said that once the construction has been completed, the company will try to obtain certificate both at home and overseas.
Geo-Coal technology developed by TSI uses superheated steam to reduce 60 to 80 percent of the coal moisture, a process which would increase the calorie content of low rank coal by between 50 percent and 100 percent.
He estimate that Indonesia currently has about 150 billion tonnes of coal reserves, about 65-75 percent of which is categorized as low calorie coal. (*)
