Total to build gasoline station in Medan

The company?s brand and communications manager, Rulianti Syahrul said in Jakarta on Thursday that the gasoline station was expected to begin operation in the fourth quarter of this year.
Total has opened five gasoline stations in greater Jakarta since early last year. They are located in Jl Daan Mogot, Jl MT Haryono, Warung Buncit, and Modern Land and Bumi Serpong Damai, both in Tangerang.
The company plans to open at least 10 gasoline stations by the end of this year. The other five stations ? four in Jakarta and one in Medan ? are under construction.
Total said earlier that it would spend at least US$200 million for the opening of each gasoline station which will have a capacity to sell 10,000 liters a day, respectively. Total sells three types of non-subsidized fuels at its outlets including Performance 95, Performance 92 and Performance Diesel.
Dutch oil company Shell and Petronas of Malaysia are the first to enter Indonesia?s retail fuel market since the government removed the exclusive rights awarded to Pertamina to distribute and sell fuels in the country in 2005.
Pertamina still handles the sales of subsidized fuels which account for more than 80 percent of the domestic fuel market as other companies are still unable to meet the requirements to distribute the subsidized fuels. (godang)
