Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Purnomo Yusgiantoro said Friday that he had urged oil and gas producer TotalFinaElf E&P Indonesie to increase natural gas production from its Peciko field in East Kalimantan so as to enable the country to export more liquefied natural gas (LNG) to South Korea.
TotalFinaElf supplies Peciko gas to an LNG plant in Bontang, East Kalimantan, which is operated by PT Badak NGL Co. Peciko field supplies nearly 60 percent of the LNG plant requirements.
South Korea?s state gas company Korea Gas Corp (KOGAS) had recently asked Indonesia to immediately ship nine extra cargoes of LNG so as to fulfill rising demand in the country.
Indonesia?s state oil and gas firm Pertamina said it might be able to offer KOGAS one extra cargo only.
Pertamina is currently supplying around 5.3 million tons of LNG to KOGAS annually under long-term contracts. (godang)
