TotalFinaElf caps Tunu E5 well

TotalFinaElf E&P Indonesie said on Monday that the Tunu E5 well in the Mahakam block, East Kalimantan that blew out early March, had been successfully capped during operations.

?Over the last few days, additional well control equipment has been installed to allow further work to be carried out to either repair the well or to abandon it. In parallel, a relief well has been drilled close to Tunu E5. This well may be used if necessary, for the final abandonment of Tunu E5,? said company spokesperson Ananda Idris in a statement.

According to Ananda, company insurers have appointed a loss adjuster who has already met with company representatives in order to ascertain a fair insurance compensation for the incident.

Ananda said the incident caused no revenue loss for the country as the well stopped flowing by itself at a very early stage. The shutdown of surrounding wells had not disrupted gas supply to the Bontang LNG Plant and no LNG export vessels have been rescheduled for delayed due to the incident, he said.

The Mahakam Block is operated by TotalFinaElf E& P Indonesie (50 percent) in partnership with Japan?s Inpex (50 percent). (godang)
