TotalFinaElf not to leave Indonesia despite crisis

Monday, July 9 2001 - 03:21 AM WIB

French oil and gas giant Total Fina and other French companies that have invested in Indonesia will not pull out of Indonesia despite the current political, social, economical and security problems, Neraca daily reported on Monday.

The daily quoted newly-appointed Indonesian Ambassador to French Adian Silalahi as saying that executives of TotalFinaElf and other French companies -- such as telecommunications firm Alcatel, automotive company Peugeot, hotel chain Accor Group -- had expressed their commitment to Indonesia just a few days after he was appointed as the new ambassador in France.

Despite assurances from executives of those French companies in Indonesia, Adian promised that he would meet with top executives of those companies in France to convince them that Indonesia was moving into a better future. (*)
