TotalFinaElf says not involved in local politics

Oil and gas firm TotalFinaElf dismissed accusation that it was involved in local politics by supporting demands for the establishment of a new regency in Kutai, East Kalimantan.

?I have been phoned by various parties accusing that we (TotalFinaElf) has been involved in politics. Of course, this is not true,? company spokesman Nurul Fazrie told the local Kaltim Post daily Sunday.

Accusation that the company was involved in politics emerged after a youth organization unilaterally declared the establishment of the new Kutai Pantai regency. The declaration was made recently at the company-owned football field.

TotalFinaElf has an operation in the Kutai Pantai area.

Nurul insisted that the company only focused its activities on oil and gas operation and community development to help the local people.

?We are not playing politics. We have no link to the youth organization,? he said.(*)
