An 11-meter tower structure made up of solid plastics collapsed on Monday at the construction site of a coal-fired power plant project in South Kalimantan being developed by PT Tanjung Power Indonesia (TPI), an indirect subsidiary of IDX-listed coal giant PT Adaro Energy Tbk, a local report said on Tuesday.
Tribunnews.com reported that the accident injured a number of workers, but no fatalities. Construction was suspended on Monday as the police stepped in to launch investigation, the report said.
The news portal quoted External Relations of PT Hein Global Utama, one of the sub-contractors in the project, Agus Surya as confirming the accident, but said that it only cause minor injuries to a number of workers. He expected construction can be resumed on Tuesday.
TPI is developing a 2x100 MW coal-fired power plant in Tabalong Regency, which is targeted to be completed in 2019.
Adaro Energy through subsidiary PT Adaro Power owns 65 percent of TPI, while the remaining 35 percent is owned by PT East-West Power Indonesia, a subsidiary of Korea East-West Power Co Ltd. TPI on January 23 reached financing close with six lenders, obtaining a total of US$422 million loan facilities for the estimated $545 million power plant project. A 25-year power purchase agreement was signed by TPI and state-owned electricity firm PT PLN in October 2014. (*)
