Transformer maker PT Trafoindo Prima Perkasa aims to boost its transformer production to 18,000 units this year, from the annual output of 15,000 units in the previous years, amid massive development of new power plants in the country.

Trafoindo aims to capitalize on the Indonesian government?s five-year program to develop a combined 35,000 MW of power plants through to 2019.

?In the previous years, we had been consistently running at production rate of 15,000 units, this year we aim to increase it to 18,000 units,? said Trafoindo Director of Business Development, David C. Limputra on Tuesday.

David added that PLN?s policy to prioritize domestic transformer makers in its power plant projects would bode well for the company, which allocates about 60 percent of its output to the state-owned power utility. ?The company (Trafoindo) can produce transformers with 50 percent local content,? he claimed.

Trafoindo also exports part of its transformer products to markets in Southeast Asia such as Singapore and the Philippines.
