The Trans Borneo Power Grid project stretching between Sarawak in Malaysia and West Kalimantan in Indonesia is now between 70 and 80 per cent completed.

On the other hand, the construction of the civil foundation for the 275kV Bengkayan line to border is 73 percent completed while that of the transmission tower (61 per cent) and line stringing (21 percent).

The project is on schedule and expected to be completed in the first quarter of 2016, Sarawak Public Utilities Ministry director of electricity supply Syed Mohamad Fauzi Shahab told Bernama.

He was met on the sidelines of the two-day Brunei Darussalam-Indonesia-Malaysia-Philippines East Asean Growth Area (BIMP-EAGA) Strategic Planning Meeting here on Tuesday.

The Trans Borneo Power Grid is one of the flagship projects initiated by BIMP-EAGA under its power and energy infrastructure cluster.

The updates were presented before BIMP-EAGA's senior officials and other cluster members.

The project is expected to optimize regional energy resources with Sarawak exporting surplus energy to West Kalimantan to generate additional income. (*)
