The recent transfer of some 50 ha land in the Tenggarong Seberang sub district, East Kalimantan, from coal mining giant PT Kaltim Prima Coal (KPC) to provincial-owned company Perusda has been criticized by a local non-governmental organization (NGO).

The Suara Kaltim daily quoted head of the Targati Bela Negara Kaltim, an NGO, Ferry Usman as saying that the asset should had been transferred to local cooperatives which had long been asking for the land.

He urged the East Kaliman Governor to re-transfer the asset to the cooperatives or local private sectors.

"We hope the East Kalimantan administration to consider the request of the cooperatives as part of efforts to develop the people's economy," he said. (*)
