ASX-listed Newcrest Mining Ltd said it has successfully rescued a worker trapped at the Kencana underground mine in Gosowong gold mine, Halmahera Island, North Maluku province.

?At approximately 10.30am (local time) today Pak Mursalim Sahman was safely rescued. He is now being transported to the surface after which he will be taken to the Gosowong medical centre for health checks and to be reunited with his family,? the firm said in a statement on Tuesday.

?All mining and processing operations remain suspended at Gosowong gold mine, Halmahera Island, North Maluku,? the firm added.

A geotechnical event occurred on February 8 at the Kencana underground mine, forcing Newcrest to suspend operations. Only one worker, Mursalim, was trapped.
