Trinusa Energi plans to build hydropower in Aceh

PT Trinusa Energi Indonesia plans to build a hydropower plant, called PLTA Kluet 1, with a capacity of 180 MW in Aceh Selatan regency in order to increase power supplies in Aceh and North Sumatra provinces.

The firm has carried survey on the conditions of Kluet river in several districts and the result is satisfactory, company Environmental and Forestry Advisor Nur Hidayat was quoted by Antara as saying.

He is optimistic that the Aceh and Aceh Selatan governments would welcome the plan.

He projected the project could be realized in 2018. Prior to realizing the project, the firm needs to secure environmental permit (Amdal) and forest utilization permit, since the location where the firm plans to build the project is part of conservation area.

The process of obtaining Amdal from the Ministry of Environment take at least six months, while the process of obtaining forest utilization permit from the Ministry of Forestry take at least one year, he said. (*)
