East Kalimantan coal miner PT Trisensa Mineral Utama (TMU), a coal unit of IDX-listed coal miner group PT Toba Bara Sejahtera, only produced 250,000 tons of coal during 2012, down from original target of 500,000 tons, an industry source told Petromindo.Com.

The lower than projected coal production was caused by uncompleted mine infrastructure and slippery road condition due to high level of rainfall during the first and second quarter of 2012, and higher stripping ratio, the source said.

The company is currently completing the construction of mine infrastructure such as hauling road to boost its coal output to 1 million tons per year. It is targeting to complete the project by second quarter of 2013.

The mine started commercial production in October 2011 with initial production of 40,000 tons. TMU currently produces a coal product called ?Trisensa-47?, which has a calorific value of 4,700 kcal/kg (GAR) and total sulhpur of 0.4%.
