Publicly listed engineering and electricity company PT Truba Alam Manunggal Engineering Tbk (Truba) and Hongkong-based firm Shanghai Electric Group Co. Ltd would start to build the 2 x 125 MW Kuala Tanjung coal-fired power plant in September 2007, Investor daily reported on Friday.

Nasri Sebayang, state owned elecricity firm PLN' s Deputy Director for Private Power Plant Management, said recently that Truba and Shanghai as the tender winners are currently undertaking land appropriation in the project site, located in Sei Suka District, Asahan, North Sumatra.

“Kuala Tanjung power plant is designed to overcome electricity crisis in regions. The project worth US$220 million would be built by PT Ranya Energy with banking loan raised by Truba through its Singapore-based subsidiary, Tame Turnkey Contracting Pte, Ltd ,” Nasri said.

President director of Truba Arifin Wiguna said in December 2006 that the construction of the power plant would be started in January 2007 so that the new power plant would be able to begin commercial operation in 2008.

"We have reached an initial agreement with PLN on the price of the power. The price will be about US$4.5 cent," he said. (*)
