Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources Spokesman Sujatmiko said on Thursday that coal mining firm PT Kendilo Coal Indonesia, which holds the first generation coal contract of work (PKP2B), is ready to sign the amendment of its contract following final renegotiation with the government.

He, however, did not say as to when the company would sign the amendment of the contract.

Sujatmiko also said that five mineral mining firms holding the mining contract of work (or KK) have agreed to sign the amendment of their contracts. He did not disclose the names of the firms.

He was quoted by Kontan as saying that PKP2B coal miner PT Intirta Primasakti was also ready to sign the amendment of its contract, but did not say when exactly that would be done.

The government has been struggling to force mining firms to amend their contracts to comply with the terms set in the 2009 Mining Law. Results, however, have been disappointing.

Of the 34 mineral mining companies holding the KK, only 10 have signed mining contract amendment, while of the 73 coal miners holding the PKP2B, only 22 have amended their contracts.
