Two firms to build power plant in Lahat, South Sumatra

A joint venture between PT Ridho Uatama Abadi and PT Wahana Putra Group have planned to build a power plant with a capacity of 2 x 100 Megawatt in Lahat regency, South Sumatra, Neraca daily reported from Palembang on Tuesday.

The steam power plant which will use low calorie coal as its fuel will be built in cooperation with Indonesia Power, state owned coal producer PT Tambang Batubara Bukit Asam, the state electricity company PLN and the South Sumatra provincial administration.

The construction of the mouth-mine power plant will cost about US$200 million. The project was initially planned in 195 but it was delayed following the economic crisis which hit the country in 1997. PT Ridho and Wahana plan to increase the generating capacity to 60 MW in the stage of the power plant development

The operation of the new power plant is expected to be able to cope with the shortage of power supply in the southern Sumatra. (*)
