Two developers have returned their geothermal working areas to the government as the projects were deemed to be not economically feasible, said Director General of New and Renewable Energy Rida Mulyana on Wednesday.

PT Pacific Geo Energy returned the Hu?u Daha geothermal working area located in Dompu, West Nusa Tenggara Province, which was initially targeted to develop a 65 MW geothermal power plant.

Meanwhile, PT Chevron Geothermal Suoh Sekincau returned the Suoh-Sekincau geothermal working area in Lampung, Rida said.

"Chevron returned the Sekincau, because the project is technically not economical (to be developed) after it was evaluated by the firm. The initial target is 220 MW, but the company?s findings at the time of the survey was only 60 MW, so it may be considered to have no contribution to the company," Director of Geothermal at the Directorate General of New and Renewable and Energy Conservation, Tisnaldi told Petromindo.com separately.

He said, the directorate general will offer back the Sekincau project to smaller companies than Chevron, because Chevron wants a larger capacity. "So the Sekincau project will be re-tendered with the data from the previous developer,? he said.

The Suoh-Sekincau geothermal working area was awarded to Chevron in 2009.
