Two gold miners die at Indo Muro site

Two illegal gold miners died last week at the mining site of gold mining company PT Indo Muro Kencana (IMK) in Tanah Siang area, North Barito district, Central Kalimantan province.

The local Banjarmasin Post daily said that the two men, identified as Budi and Supriyadi Yusuf, were found dead by the villagers at IMK?s waste sewage system.

The paper quoted Supariadi, a witness, as saying that dozens of illegal miners were looking for gold near the company?s sewage system last week when police patrolling the IMK mining site attacked them. The witness said that the police opened fire during the raid. He said that while other miners run away, the two death victims might have hiden in the sewage system.

Head of the North Barito Police intelligence unit Mansur Pardosi admitted that there was a raid and one policeman opened fire. But he dismissed suggestion that the two death victims were caused by the police shot gun.(*)
