Two hydro power plants in West Java including the 1,000 MW PLTA Cirata and 700 MW PLTA Saguling have stopped operation due to declining water levels amid the current drought.
PLN said in a statement Friday that this and a disturbance at the main transformer of 1,200 MW PLTU Paiton Unit 7 and 8 coal-fired power plant since October 28 have caused power deficit in the Java-Bali power system, causing brownouts in several areas.
PLN said that the brownouts are expected to last for upcoming several days, depending on how quick the repair work at Paiton could be completed.
