Two private investors PT Barugeni Tala and PT Pengerukan Indonesia have expressed their commitments to dredge the local Muara Sungai Asam-Asam river in the Tanah Laut regency, South Kalimantan, to allow coal transportation through the river.

The Banjarmasin Post daily quoted head of the local transportation authority Samidjan as saying that the two investors had recently made a presentation.

Samidjan said that once the project had been completed, the problem of coal transportation in the Tanah Laut regency could be resolved. But he did not say when the project would be started and when would be completed.

He said that dredging project would need around Rp 10 billion investment.

He said that vessels carrying logs or coal passing through the river would have to pay a fee of between 0.5-0.75 US cents.(*)
