Two major power plants outside Java to commissioning in July

State-owned electricity company PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN) said on Wednesday that the coal-fired Labuhan Angin power plant in North Sumatra and the Tanjung Batu coal-fired power plant in East Kalimantan would start commissioning next month

"The operation of the Labuhan Angin power plant will be able to cope with the power shortage of 200 MW in North Sumatra, while the operation of the Tanjung Batu power plant will be able to fill in the power supply deficit of 30 MW in East Kalimantan,? PLN?s director for power distribution outside Java and Bali, Hariadi Sadono said.

The 2 x 25 MW Tanjung Batu power plant, owned and operated by independent power producer PT Cahaya Fajar Kaltim, sells its electricity to PLN at 4 U.S. cent per KwH, while the Labuhan Angin power plant is owned and operated by PLN.

The 2 x 115 MW Labuhan Angin power plant is constructed by main contractor China National Machinery & Equipment Import & Export Corporation (CMEC) and several local sub-contractors such as PT.Truba Jurong, and PT Wijaya Karya.(Bernard)
