Two mining companies, state miner firm PT Aneka Tambang Tbk (Antam), and United Kingdom-based firm Sumatra Coal and Gold Company Ltd (SCGC) expanded their exploration activities in their gold mine concession areas in Jambi, Kompas reported Wednesday.

The two companies also planned to build gold processing facilities in their respective mining areas to support their gold mining activities.

Antam had secured exploration rights to extract gold in a concession area in Sarolangun regency, while SCGC had secured a general survey permit to explore in a 200,000-hectare mining area in Batang Asai, Limun districts in Sarolangun regency and Muara Siau in Merangin Regency.

"After a year of general survey, the company is expected to begin its exploration activities soon," Irmansyah Rachman, the head of the local mining office.

Jambi, is one of the country's provinces which are rich in mineral deposits. Gold deposits are for example found in 11 locations in four regencies including Merangin, Bungo, Sarolangun and Kerinci. (*)
