Two illegal miners searching for gold in the Pongkor mining site of state-owned miner PT Aneka Tambang (Antam) in Bogor, West Java, were killed on Thursday, possibly due to the lack of oxygen while digging underground.

The Media Indonesia daily reported in its Friday edition that the victims were identified as Maman (22 years old) and Uhap (30), both residence of Nanggung sub district in Bogor.

This is the second deadly incident so far this year at Pongkor. Last week, 12 illegal miners were also killed while digging for gold.(*)
