President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono on Monday in Balikpapan, East Kalimantan, inaugurated two power plants including the 110 MW Embalut coal-fired power plant (PLTU) unit 3 and the 2x60 MW peaking gas turbine power plant (PLTG).
Located in Kutai Kertanegara Regency, East Kalimantan Province, the development cost of the PLTU Embalut and peaking PLTG reached up to Rp 759 billion and Rp 960 billion, respectively.
Governor of East Kalimantan Awang Faroek said, the electrification ratio in East Kalimantan only reached 76.84 percent in 2012. "The development of two power plants will provide power to the Mahakam system," he added.
The two power plants are part of the infrastructure projects under the so-called Master Plan for the Acceleration of Indonesian Economic Development, or better known as MP3EI.
