Two solar power plants to be developed in NTT

State-owned electricity firm PT PLN signed on Wednesday agreements with private firms PT Global Karya Mandiri and PT Indo Solusi Utama to develop solar power plants in Attambua and Flores Island, East Nusa Tenggara Province (NTT), Antara reported.

PLN Business Director for NTT and Sulawesi Region, Marison said that the projects are part of the government?s five-year program to develop a total of 35,000 MW power plants until 2019.

He said that the Attambua solar power plant, to be developed by Global Karya, will have a capacity of 1 MWp, while the one in Flores, to be developed by Indo Solusi, 2x1 MWp.

He said that out of the total 50 solar power plant projects planned for the region since 2014, only two have been completed, one in Kupang (5 MW), and another in Gorontalo Province (2 MW).

Kartono, a commissioner at Global Karya, said that difficulties in obtaining the necessary permits and land acquisition have been the major problems faced by investors in realizing solar power plant projects. (*)
