Two wooden ships carrying fuels explode in Riau

Two wooden ships were burned at Siak river, some 100 meters from Sungaiduku port in Riau on Sunday afternoon after hundreds of drums of fuel aboard the two ships were gutted by fire, and exploded, Riau Pos reported on Monday.

No deaths and casualties were reported. But witnesses said that the fires, which had caused a major exposition, burned down all the two ships, KM Subur Jaya and KM Sinar Sakti, which were especially operated to transport fuel from the mainland Riau to several islands in the province.

According to the witness, the fire occurred when Sinar Sakti was still loading the fuel at the river bank. The fire then spread to the other fuel ship, which was about to sail off to transport the fuel to Bengkalis island. (*)
