Investors from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) have expressed interest to invest in solar power plant projects in Indonesia, according to Indonesian Deputy Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Arcandra Tahar.
Speaking to reporters following a meeting with UAE business delegation led by visiting UAE Energy Minister Suhail Mohammed Faraj Al Mazrouei on Wednesday, he said that one of the location for the planned solar power plant is in Cirata, West Java Province, where investors from that country plan to invest in other business sectors.
He did not provide further details about the planned investment in the solar power plant projects by UAE.
Arcandra was quoted by Bisnis Indonesia as saying that UAE cold produce solar electricity at a very low cost of 3 US cents per kWh, compared to 9-14 US cents per kWh in Indonesia. He, however, doubted that UAE could generate solar power at such a low cost in Indonesia considering different conditions between the two countries. He pointed out that investors in UAE could obtain land for free, tax exemption facility, and much lower interest rate. In addition, UAE has better sun ray quality.
